McKenzie Wark is the author of A Hacker Manifesto (Harvard 2004), Gamer Theory (Harvard 2007) and various other things. He is associate dean of Eugene Lang College.

Abstract

Gift, Game, Work and Labor takes a critical look at four categories of what we might call praxis, or the process of self-transformation. In the digital era it is no longer clear what the difference is between them. Hence the need for a comprehensive approach that considers all forms of praxis together. A critical approach, moreover, does not just concern itself with the ways in which praxis is tranformative, but the ways in which praxis itself can be transformed.
